This male lyre player bears striking resemblance to the other figurines such as the figurine of woman found in the Cyclades. However this figures is different in many ways, for example it is depicted with a lyre, and also being a male figure, not a female one. This is interesting as most male representation in the figures is of them playing musical instruments. Like the other figurines, they are mostly found around grave sites, and are thought to be playing their instrument to their dead.
Why This Artwork?
Along with the figurine of a woman, this one was another form of figurine found around the Cyclades. This figurine also gives us a glimpse into the ancient peoples life, as we can now see that they used musical instruments and had gained access to the lyre. This is very important to learning the culture of the people at this time.
