General Information:
This collage is considered the first work of pop art to achieve iconic status, and is one of the most well known images of pop art. The collage consists of images taken mainly from American magazines, with a template of an image of a modern sitting-room. In this room, several things were pasted into the image, a body builder, a highly sexualized woman, a lollipop that the bodybuilder is carrying, and several other advertisements from various magazines. The collage is usually interpreted as a commentary as to the change in the western culture. People were becoming more concerned with body image, having the newest technology and living in a expensive home with decorations that adhere to the style of the time. All of this is a commentary of the consumerist culture of buy, buy, buy.
