Cupid a Captive
This artwork shows many nude women surrounding cupid, keeping him captive. The painting was done with several other mythological paintings by the same artist, Boucher. Its subject was not uncommon for the Rococo style, as the french did many portrayals of the classical mythical characters. The painting shows very easily the bright colors and cheerful mood of Rococo. Also this painting shows the rather common subject matter of sensuous material.
Why This Artwork?
This painting was chosen because it easily shows the sensuous material that the french nobility favored, granting a glimpse into the material that the french often portrayed.
