General Information:
This chapel contains a large amount of fresco's by Giotto. The chapel itself is considered one of the more important masterpieces of Western art. Apart from these however, the chapel is without many decorations. The Chapel features a barrel vault roof, which is also colorfully painted. Almost all the scenes depicted inside the chapel show scenes of Christ or about him in the New Testament in the Bible, such as the Resurrection of Lazarus, the Crucifixion, and many more. One of the more particular scenes that is loved widely is the gripping scene of the Kiss of Judas, a moment of betrayal that was very important in Christian beliefs. Art Historians widely consider much of the artwork inside to be some of Giotto's best work.
Why This Artwork?
This building was chosen because of the wide amount of artwork inside, all of which depicts the Proto-Renaissance style very well. Also, as well as the style, we can see elements of architecture from the periods before still being used. It also gives us a glimpse at the architecture of the time.
