General Information
the sculpture of the seated scribe is one of them most important examples of ancient Egyptian art because it was one of the rare examples of Egyptian naturalism, as most Egyptian art is highly idealized and very rigid. Special attention was clearly put into on the eyes of the sculpture. They are modeled in rich detail out of pieces of red-veined white magnesite which was elaborately inliad with pieces of polished truncated rock crystal. The identity of the person represented remains unknown.
Why This Artwork?
This artwork was chosen because of its importance in looking into the past in ancient Egyptian art. It clearly shows that they had access to paper, as well as that they highly revered their scribes, easily shown by the fact that they took this time to represent this one. It also shows how Egyptians would handle naturalistic art, because there are so few examples of non idealized art found.
