Period: Late 11th to Early 12th Century
General Information:
This Basilica was one of the most ancient churches in Italy, and it where numerous martyrs of the Roman Persecutions had been buried. The architecture and style of the work was similar to many other early christian basilicas. It appears, compared to the other buildings, such as those in France, that this one is much lower in height, with fat, not skinny columns.
Why This Artwork?
This artwork was chosen because it represents the various architecture from Italy, instead of mainly from the more western architecture present. Also this is an important building because of the history behind it, such as the martyrs it commemorates.
