General Information
This relief shows Ashurbanipal Hunting Lions. Ashurbanipal was an Assyrian leader. Assyrians tend to have large reliefs representing them with great power. Lions are representative as the power of nature, and as the people killing them shows that they have power over nature, and thus are shown to be very strong.
Why This Artwork?
Assyrians tend to have images dealing with power and showing that they have power in a propaganda fashion. This artwork in particular shows this very well, in that they have power over nature and so are very strong and have a lot of power. Thus the reason why I chose this piece of art, because it easily represents the majority of Assyrian art.
