Apotheosis of the Pisani Family
Factual Information:
From: Villa Pisani, Stra, Italy
Period: 1761-1762
Period: 1761-1762
General Information:
This painting by Tiepolo was an Italian work of art, a fresco on the ceiling of a villa. This means that the Rococo style was not unique to just France but eventually spread to more areas, such as Italy, one of the prime areas for works of art. The ceiling fresco shows many figures in multiple ways, all on clouds. In the middle, we get a glimpse of a blue sky through the crowded clouds. The composition consists of two sections, each independent. One of the family who the work was for, the Pisani family, and various other characters in the lower part. In the middle, a figure representing Fame, sounds her trumpet. Other figures represent various things such as Divine Wisdom, Faith, Love, Hope, and Strength.
Why This Artwork?
This artwork was chosen to help articulate that the Rococo style did not just stay in France, but eventually spread outwards to other areas, albeit being much less common than it was in its native land.
